minus object is a design and fabrication practice where traditional machining logics inform object design and assembly.

reversibility

mechanically connected interfaces enable disassembly into constituent parts to be refinished, replaced or repurposed depending on the stage of the object’s lifecycle.

aesthetic quality

connections/interfaces are carefully considered as details which govern design thus yielding an aesthetically distinguished appearance.

materials

The practice primarily utilises:

metals - mild & stainless steel, crass, bronze and copper

engineered boards - plywood and richlite

all parts are finished exclusively with multiple coats of naturally derived wax; a gentler solution which allows for non-intrusive refinishing and recycling.
